Michael Jordan was third round pick for the NBA. Then he became the most famous and best player in all of NBA history. Why is that? How? He sold his soul. No other explanation. You don't go from 3rd round pick, a loser to become the greatest player of all time.

i would say Larry Byrd gave Michael Jordan a lot of competition during the early years of Michael Jordan's career. also Hakeem Olajuwan gave Jordan competition.

"...he could have been the NBA rival that Michael Jordan never had.." WTF are you talking about foool? Jordan was in teh league for seven years before he won a championship. His team, the Bulls, LOST every single playoff series to Larry Bird's Celtics. Jordan had to wait for Magic and Bird to retire, the Jordan started juicing, his hair fell out and he was a steroid freak just like the NBA wanted. Get your facts straight

Bias was just a freak of nature athlete. His overall skillset was no where near Michael's, but his athleticism and hops woulda carried him for sure in the NBA. And its not like he couldnt shoot either. Michael was so good though because of his versatility. He could literally do EVERYTHING. Post up, fade away, dunk, layup, jump shot, 3's, foul shooting, bank shots... He did it ALL... And he was a monster Defender on top of all this. Imagine a James Harden that actual put in real effort and hustle on both sides of the court lol

Jordan is the Greatest to ever play. He was intentional about becoming the best. He had the natural talent and athletic ability to match. His competitiveness and work ethic made him push past others who may have had a glimpse of being able to rival him. Jordan is still the GOAT. If you were lucky enough to have grew up watching him, and you’re honest about it, you will say the same. In my opinion the only one who had the natural game and talent to maybe rival Jordan in some way was Iverson and he just couldn’t make it happen. Jordan is the Gold standard of Basketball and no one can take that from him. Period.

Most folks don't like my philosophy about team sports. But hey, that's ok, we all have opinions and our rights to them. Basketball is a team sport, so to be a GOAT you can't just be the best player, you have to be the Best Leader. You have to be able to bring out the best in your teammates. He got the "Leader" quality trait after being in the leagues 6 yrs. He realized it wasn't a one man show and he couldn't do it alone. So it took him 6 yrs to realize this, 6 yrs to MATURE. It Also took LbJ 8 yrs to get his (the reasons were slightly different, but...). But there are GOATS that showed Maturity and leadership (to be a Good leader you have to know how to follow too) from day one and others, well like MJ, that have/had to grow into it. Magic Johnson, came out of college and led LA to a title the 1st yr (not after 6). Tim Duncan, OMG, after his 2nd yr on the team (such an Unselfish guy), Kareem, 2nd yr in the league. OMG and the BIG Bill Russell: Gold Medal In Basket Ball at the olympics in 56 and NBA champ with the celtics in '57, his rookie yr, first of 11 RINGS. Folks, the era is secondary, because you do whatever it takes to win in YOUR time, and Bill was pretty good at that. In my book you wanna be the ONLY GOAT, you gotta lead in EVERY category, BUT MJ DOES NOT. As a matter of fact Statistically he ranks 4th or 5th. But I don't want to get off topic. So that is why I, ME, I can't put MJ as the GOAT. He is a CO-GOAT but not THEE GOAT. THERE ARE just are too many important category where he comes up short. The Leadership quality trait/plays well with others trait/trust in you teammates trait, is Paramount with me when it comes to Team sports. But we all saw how well he did in Golf (where you're left to your own devices). And when you have to rely on others when you are NOT the best, like in Base Ball, his true colors showed. Anyway, I digressed. So that's JMHO.

    • X-man
      X-man

@Poveri Sfigati >Jordan's a shooting guard. He has better per game stats than any other shooting guard. So he does have the best stats across the board. Not sure what you're going on about. >You keep intentionally ignoring the fact that I brought up. Jordan was not given anywhere near the help that Russell, Bird, Magic, Dr. J, Thomas, etc. had. And he couldn't jump ship to other teams like the modern NBA. He was forced to build his team from the ground up and developed a dynasty. >Saying that he took longer than players with stacked teams is not a reflection of his leadership skills. It's a reflection of your education on basketball.

    • Poveri Sfigati
      Poveri Sfigati

@X-man lol. you're funny. But still majorly ignorant. No one is disputing his achievements. Nor his "superman like" abilities, Your mainstream arguments are Congruent to those of the Other GOATS in the game. If MJ is so great than he should have the best Stats cross the board, but unfortunately for you and that argument he comes in 4th all time. You keep going on about his achievements, My focus is on his leadership qualities on and Off the court, and the length of time it took for him to acquire/develop those leadership skills compared to others. He won his 1st ring after 6 yrs, whereas Other goats won it within their 1st and 2nd yr. That could be construed as a ding against his leadership qualities. Your concept of team play is totally lacking because you keep harping on the fact that he didn't have the appropriate role players. Well that argument is debunked because Popovich went to the Playoffs 20 yrs+ with players that by NBA standards are a little above mediocre. Smh. man take a seat.

    • X-man
      X-man

@Poveri Sfigati (Part 2) >Jordan was drafted to the Chicago Bulls which had amongst the worst offense, defense, and rebounding in the league. They had one of the worst records in the league. They missed the playoffs 3 straight years in a row. >They didn't have a dominant low post big man, great wing shooters, a playmaker/facilitator, an elite finisher, or a dominant wing defender. And that's the team that Jordan was drafted to and was expected to make better. >Jordan lead his team in 4 categories (points, assists, steals, and rebounds). Which helped them make the playoffs for the first time in the past 3 years. >Jordan, after coming back from injury of his 2nd season, started carrying the scoring load in 1987 and contributing a lot defensively. As a result, the team's defense was amongst the best and the offense heavily improved. >In 88, he started dominating on defense and carrying the scoring load. As a result, the team's defense became the best and the Bulls made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. >In 1989, Jordan took over as the playmaker for the team. As a result, the team's offense was amongst the best, the defense as amongst the best, and the Bulls made it to the conference finals. > In 1990, Phil Jackson had Michael Jordan do the same thing he was doing in 1989, except he had him play off the ball (instead of on the ball). Meaning that Jordan has to run around the court all day long, waiting for the Bulls to throw him the ball before he could score or pass. As a result, the Bulls ball movement got a lot better. >In 1991, Jackson finally came up with another idea. Jordan was expected to take the pressure off of his teammates by taking up even more roles. Jordan had to diversify his scoring. Jordan and Pippen were both finishing around the rim. Jordan and Horace were both playing under the rim. Jordan and Paxton were both shooting from the outside. Jordan and Bill Cartwright were both shooting from mid range. As a result, the team finished with the best record in the league, one of the best offenses in the league, one of the best defenses in the league, dominated in the playoffs, and won the championship-starting a dynasty. So Jordan taking up MORE roles (not less) is what helped his team win. It's even more evident by the fact that Jordan was leading the league in scoring when he won championships for the Bulls. So again, your research is lacking.

    • X-man
      X-man

@Poveri Sfigati (Part 1) Again. Your education of basketball is incredibly limited. You're too busy repeating mainstream media talking points instead of actually paying attention to the actual game. Michael Jordan never though that he could do it by himself. There's no evidence that backs that up. >Jordan in high school led his team the championship game before losing. He led his McDonald's All American East Team to victory. >Jordan won 3 ACC Tournaments in college and won a championship. >He won a Pan Americans game gold medal in his 2nd year of college. Played for Team USA in 1984 and dominated a team full of NBA Superstars in a 8 game series (8-0). Then went on to dominate in the Olympics and won a gold medal. >In 1992, he dominated and on a gold medal as the US Dream Team.

    • Poveri Sfigati
      Poveri Sfigati

@X-man nah, just shows you're all around Ignorance, especially in team sports. MJ couldn't find himself out of a paper bag when it comes to Leadership. He sucks as an owner of his NBA franchise, reflective of his leadership. As for Air jordan, shoes, he can thank God that he hasa Huge Nike Management behind him, if not it would have already gone bankrupt. MJ is a great player. But he thought he could do it alone, but after 6 yrs found out that it's a team sport. You don't need great players to surround you, you need TEAM PLAYERS. And until MJ got that in is skull he came up short. Case and point, the Spurs: the big 3 were never Legendary, an argument could be made for TD but even he couldn't carry the team for a whole season. The whole foundation of POP'S tactics and strategy is TEAM WORK.
