30% is not atrocious. Because you’re putting one against the entire field. That’s not remarkable or surprising at all that 30% of the time the number one pick is better than ALL of the other pics.

Basketball is team sport indeed, but NBA is way less team sport compared to any other league in the world. And while NBA is definitely the best basketball league I think the league was much more interesting 20-30 years ago even tho it was still pass the best player on your team and let him do the work mostly. NBA became very boring. Usually, I only enjoy semi-final or final itself. The rest of the season is just boring. Bring back defense!

2011 Draft: Kyrie Irving, Klamath Thompson, Khawi Leonard, Jimmy Butler and Isaiah Thomas best players in class... to me Kyrie was the best choice if you was looking for a guard so to say that one of these other guys was better would only work if your team needed the position. I think any of these guys could have gone number one but Kyrie the only one who played for a big market team in college such as Duke. Kemba is also In this draft as well.

A lot of these guys in your seven year span were the best of their draft class coming out of college and only got passed up down the line by guys that were obviously projects or because of injuries. Ex: Rose vs Westbrook, Griffin vs Harden and Curry, Wall vs PG, Kyrie vs Kawhi. It's more amazing that they got the first pick that right considering a lot of the guys coming between them and the actual "best" player turned out to be complete busts.

Ok, name me the best player in the 2008 draft. Rose got his career potential lowered thanks to injuries. Literally, no one can see which players get injured during their careers and how badly. Rose is the youngest player who has won the MVP, had he not got injured maybe Westbrook doesn't get his MVP, Rose could be 3 or even more times MVP. So yeah looking through the 2008 draft I don't see a better player. Up to the career-altering injury, Rose was the best player in his draft.

I predicted both of your first two right based solely on how y’all they are. The taller you are in the NBA the easier your life is period. That’s all this sport is about. It’s takes someone who has extreme talent and is a big body that can still move to break that pattern.

I think you are doing very well if your #1 end up being top 3 in that year's draft, since the #1 is an after the fact where a whole range of uncontrolled variables come into play (e.g. injury). It is entirely unrealistic to expect that you'd able to predict the #1 player X number of years IN THE FUTURE.

Excellent video that I will be sharing with A LOT of Rockets fans saying #FadeforCade. 1) tanking only guarantees reclaiming their top 4 protected pick. 2) there's likely a slim to none chance they get the first pick. 3) the odds of Cade Cunningham being a generational talent that will be capable of leading a full rebuild team to contention are even smaller than the MVP odds. I am a draft class study fanatic. It's a habit I have picked up playing games like Madden and 2k for years. I have studied this supposed "strong draft class" of 2021 and can say, in my opinion, there is no sure fire all star from appearances. By that I mean an immediate impact, take the league by storm prospect. I obviously could be wrong and maybe the 18th or 20th pick ends up being the early favorite but predicting that is near impossible. Cunningham looks to be a solid, day 1 NBA ready starter but I have watched quite a bit of tape on him. Good handle for a 6'8" player, solid passing and jump shot, looks to be a versatile defender, but has relied on bullying smaller opponents at all levels. Has decent athleticism but nothing eye popping AND is fairly slow for someone who is a full time ball handler. This is the best in class. Mobley is a close 2nd but it's hard to judge young bigs this early because he hasn't filled out and we don't know how his game will translate to the jump shot, get buckets gameplay style of the NBA just yet. He for sure does not have an AD or Durant skill set though so it will likely take time. This is why the tanking model is such a huge gamble. You are dooming your franchise to 5+ years of piss poor play and demoralizing your fan base for the chance, a poor one at that, to get that generational talent. Or even more rarely, a transformative talent. People like to point to the 76ers as a success story but leave out the fact that they had more than a few bad picks AND the tank lasted longer than expected because of injuries and the fact that several top draft picks without vets around them are generally not good at first. It remains to be seen whether it will pay off or not but by and large, the tanking model is faulty at best.
